Arco - Marocche
The route which takes you to the northern limit of the
Sarca valley is long but not difficult. From the Arco bridge you cycle along
the left bank of the river starting below the sheer cliff of the castle.
Along the asphalt road which goes through Prabi you can see the little old
church of Sant'Apollinare and soon after that the hermitage of San Paolo.
After the Roman bridge at Ceniga (which pass on your right) the route
becomes uneven but never difficult, until you get to the Ciclamino motocross
track at Pietramurata. You cannot fail to notice the smooth rock face of
Mount Brento above you which is an extremely popular site for climbing, free
or otherwise. After crossing the main road in the centre of Pietramurata
village the return journey begins running along unsurfaced tracks on the
other side of the river Sarca. The route runs through the rocky post-glacial
desert landscape known as Marocche. Returning for a short stretch of asphalt
and leaving the village of Dro still on the other side of the river you
proceed through the leafy plum orchards towards Maso Giare and Moletta, then
passing through the hamlets of San Martino and Massone you finally arrive
back at your point of departure.
