Walks in Riva del Garda:

Lakeside walk from Piazza Catena to "La Punta", excellent point
for a breathtaking view (15 min.).
PROMENADE FROM THE ROCCA TO S. NICOLÒ'S FORT AND TORBOLE
To the fort 30 min. and walking further on the right of the tunnel 20 min.
till Torbole.
MONTE BRIONE
From S.Nicolò's Fort there is a nice path through a beautiful
olive grove and Mediterranean vegetation; on the way you can find some First
World War military forts and the TV aerial on the top (about 1
hour).
BASTIONE AND S. BARBARA
The Bastione is a Venetian fortress of 1508 reachable from the
Circonvallazione. The path (n° 404) starts on the left side of the
parking-place. There is a bar next to the ruins. Excellent view over the
town and the whole region (20 min.). Following the path 404 for about an
hour it is possible to go up to the chapel S.Barbara built in 1935 by some
miners.
VARONE WATERFALL
3 Km from Riva, about 45 min. walk through the byroads Via Ardaro,
Via Marone and Via Cartiere. This beautiful waterfall
originates from the water of the Magnone stream, which, with a drop of 87
meters, rushes into the gorge which has been formed over thousands of years
by the continuous erosion of the water.
LAKE TENNO AND S. PIETRO
The panoramic path n° 401 called "Gòla" starts near the Varone
Waterfall, on the left side of the Restaurant "La Rocchetta"; it leads to the villages of Tenno and Calvola. From Calvola, turning left along the road, you can reach the mediaeval
village of Canale. From there, in 15 min. you can go to Lake Tenno (2
hours from the Waterfall). From Calvola, following the path n° 401, at first
on the footpath and then on asphalted road, you can get to the Refuge S.
Pietro which overlooks Lake Garda and the surrounding mountains (2½ hours
from the Waterfall).
ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE OF S. GIOVANNI AND CAMPI
The footpath n° 402 leads to the archeological area in about 1 hour.
Starting points: Circonvallazione (path 404) or Via Lavino.
S.Giovanni is a very interesting site: the ruin dates back to the Roman
times, it was a fortress during the 13th century and then it was turned into
a small church. Walking further on, for about 1½ hour, you can reach Campi:
a small old village which, with its tall bulky stone-houses and its
monumental balconies, lies in a peaceful valley behind Mount Tombio. About
20 min. further, above the village in the locality of S.Martino there
is another archeological site, where interesting prehistoric and Roman
objects were discovered in the seventies.
