XVI edition of the International Competition for Young Opera Singers “Riccardo Zandonai” is taking place in Riva del Garda (Italy) from 1st to 5th June 2010. Since the Competition has begun -under the artistic direction of the celebrated soprano Mietta Sighele-, it has been considered one of the most important both nationally and internationally. Every year, this Competition gathers hundreds of young opera singers coming from all around the world, who –after having took part in the Competition- are now performing in some of the most important theatres in Italy and abroad. As a matter of fact, this Competition has graduated some of the greatest young artists in the worldwide opera panorama, who have performed, for instance, in the Metropolitan Theatre of New York, La Scala of Milan and in the Opera of Berlin. As a result, the Competition represents the first step to start with a high level professional opera career for most of the young participants.

The many prizes include: The Mietta Sighele Prize for the best young talent; a scholarship offered by the Barcellona based magazine “Opera Actual”; five joint scholarships offered by Sarca – Mincio – Garda BIM and the City Council of Riva del Garda. The Zurich Hopernhaus, the Fondazione Festival Puccini, the Fondazione I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, The State Opera Foundation of Hungary in Budapest and the Fondazione Teatro San Carlo di Napoli offer several opportunities to enjoy their concerts and operas.
